Serbia at the time was occupied by Austria and Bulgaria.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To insure their survival the Serbian army and the aged King Peter I and Crown Prince Alexander (Commander in Chief of the Serbian Army) made a strategic withdrawal through Albania to the island of Corfu and there the Serbian Army was refitted and reorganized.<\/p>\n<p>A very large portion of Serbian soldiers died from exhaustion, food shortage, and disease. Several thousand soldiers were buried at sea near the Island of Vido and on Vido Island there is mausoleum.
